Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why hire a freelance writer?

A. Because, like Rolaids, they spell relief!

A good freelance writer will save you time, money and stress.

You're responsible for a multitude of things. A laundry list of projects you know you need to be doing to keep your company moving forward.

But you, and your staff, are already stretched thin. So you go without the sales and marketing materials that would help your generate the results you need. Or you keep "making do" with what you have, even though it has out-lived its effectiveness.

"Marketing and PR is new to us. Not only did Catherine step into our high tech world of alternative energy sources and government agencies and create solid, informative press releases that hit our targets, she walked us through the process and made us comfortable with it."
... Kathy Olenick,
Marketing Manager
ENrG, Inc.

Wouldn't it be great to confidently hand these projects off to someone who can get them done right and on deadline? Think of the time and resources it would free for all those other projects that need your attention. Think of the stress it would alleviate.

Here's where I can help. By outsourcing those writing projects to a professional you'll get the materials you need without taking time away from your other responsibilities. And, you'll say adios to that stress headache. The one that starts when you think about the pile of writing projects on your desk.

Outsourcing to a freelance writer is a cost effective way to get your writing tasks under control.

That's right. When you outsource to me, you pay for the writing project only. No salary, benefits, or paid down-time for sick days, vacations or coffee breaks. How's that for affordable extra staff when you need it?

And what's more, you'll get a skilled professional who will deliver the job on time at a great price!

And there's more. As a freelancer, I'm in a position to:

  • Bring a fresh perspective, enthusiasm and new ideas to your projects
  • Give your writing an expert edge that gives you a competitive advantage
  • Enhance your company's image with a professional touch
  • Help you move forward by becoming an effective resource you use to grow your business

And, unlike the big marketing firms, no job is too small.

Q. I've never worked with a freelance writer. What should I expect?

A. Here's the condensed version that will give you a general idea of how the process works.

We'll start with a meeting during which I collect information about the project and your company and its target audience. This can be done either at your office or over the phone.

Afterward, I'll contact you with a quote for my services. Once we are in agreement on the fee and specifics, I'll fax or e-mail you a letter of agreement. You'll sign and return it together with any agreed upon initial payment. And then, as they say, we're in business.

I'll work on a draft of the project and send it to you for review. If you decide you'd like some changes, you'll return the draft to me with your changes. I'll make the revisions and send you a final copy. After you've had some time to look it over, I'll give you a call to be sure you're satisfied before I send your invoice.

Q. How much do you charge?

A. Like most freelance writers, the majority of projects I do are quoted on a flat-fee basis. That's good for you, because, unlike hourly billing, you'll know exactly what the project will cost up-front!

My quote is based on the expected time it will take me to complete the project – including meetings, research, writing, and revisions – times my hourly rate.

There's no charge for our initial meeting to discuss the project.
